Waste Management Permit
Since waste-related activities pose risks to the environment and human health, a waste management operator must obtain a Waste Management Permit issued by the State Environmental Service before commencing such activities.
Procedure for Obtaining the Permit:
The company must obtain a permit to carry out the following activities:
- waste collection;
- waste collection and transportation;
- waste transshipment and storage;
- waste sorting and storage;
- waste storage;
- waste transportation;
- excavation of closed or reclaimed landfills and re-sorting of the waste contained therein.
The procedure for issuing a waste management permit is defined by Cabinet Regulation No. 703, ‘Regulations on the Procedure for Issuing and Cancelling Waste Management Permits, Registration and Information Requirements for Waste Dealers and Brokers, as well as the State Fee and its Payment Procedure’.
If the waste management operator has already obtained an A or B category polluting activity permit, the waste management conditions are included in that permit, except for permits related to waste transportation and landfill excavation.
In order to obtain a permit for waste management activities, a financial guarantee must also be submitted to the State Environmental Service. This is a bank or insurer guarantee ensuring that compensation will be paid upon the first request of the State Environmental Service.
